Dear Friend,

Through Dance Collection Danse, you and thousands like you worldwide can uncover Canada’s remarkable dance artists, organizations and events from the past 120 years. I hope that you continue to enjoy our magazine and that you visit our website from time to time to keep up with news and events.

From my experience as a board member of Dance Collection Danse and former Chair of the Ryerson University Dance program, I believe that DCD can play a crucial role in uncovering the depth of the country’s rich dance history for the youth of today… and so, I am thrilled to tell you about a new educational initiative – the centrepiece of our upcoming programming for students.

Currently in development, the new program will be delivered at the DCD Gallery and also travel to schools across Canada. With stories from St. John's to Victoria and from Ballet to Bharatanatyam, this program will give students from primary grades through grade 12 the opportunity to discover and reflect on dance as a part of Canada’s history. Using artifacts, various media and oral history accounts, the age-appropriate learning activities will be augmented through the use of interactive technology. The on-site program at the DCD Gallery will launch this fall and the travelling program will begin targeted trials in urban and rural schools in 2016. Subsequently, “teacher kits” will be available to schools across the country.

We are pleased to have the Ontario Trillium Foundation partner with us on this initiative; however, additional support is needed to fully carry out these plans. I hope that you will join me in making a “special gift” to help raise $5,500 by July 31st.

Funds from this campaign will be used to purchase 10 computer tablets (+cases) for student use as well as for the transfer of media content to digital formats; $50 will buy 1 iPad Mini case, $150 will rescue 1 “reel-to-reel” video, $300 will buy 1 iPad Mini.

Thank-you for considering this opportunity to extend the reach of DCD’s treasured collection. To donate, you can send a cheque to the address below, call DCD or click on the CanadaHelps button.
