On June 1, 1956 Nancy presented her Sudbury students in their first annual recital. She had divided her classes into the following groups: Peewees, Chickadees, Porcupines, Beavers, Intermediate and Advanced students. There were seventy students in the Sudbury school and sixty in Garson. Judging by the number of students in her first season and the warm reception held for Nancy on her arrival, it is obvious that there was tremendous support for dance in the Sudbury area. In fact, press clippings reveal that there were at least two other dance teachers in the area before Nancy arrived; Shirley Simard had her own school and Ingrid Bolf taught at the Crouse School of Dancing.
