The social status of the Ballet Festival is indicated by the events that accompanied it. In 1949, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and Mrs. Ray Lawson for Festival participants. Over 500 attended the tea including some of Toronto's well-known citizens such as Premier Thomas Kennedy and Mrs. Kennedy, Mayor McCallum and Mrs. McCallum, Lady Kemp, Lady MacMillan, Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Woods, Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Whitehead, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Laidlaw, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Chalmers and Dr. and Mrs. Charles Best. Both Aileen Woods (Mrs. J.D. Woods) and Pearl Whitehead (Mrs. R.B. Whitehead) would be significant contributors to the founding of the National Ballet of Canada in a few years' time.
